Construction Worker Finds Relief for Chronic
Lower Back Pain

Chronic and recurrent pain is a significant
problem for children and adults. Stress and
anxiety may add to the frequency and intensity
of the chronic pain. Tom was disabled from 2
back surgeries related to construction injuries.
He had difficulty lying down, sitting, or
standing for long periods. He began to brace
and guard against the pain which made things
worse for him. Eventually, he became
discouraged about trying to remain active and
social.

To develop new coping skills and hopefully
breakout of the isolation caused by his chronic
pain, Tom signed up for 3-6 weeks of stress and
anxiety reduction skills training. After 4 weeks
of training, using the Quick Coherence
Technique® and Freeze Framer® sessions, two
of the techniques from the
Personal Journey to
Health Program, Tom said he had “gotten his
life back”. He stopped talking about his pain.
His sense of humor returned and he was
enjoying social activities again.

Children with Emotional and Behavioral
Problems Can Benefit Too

   Nine-year-old Molly was having problems
with stress, worry, sleeping, and managing her
emotions. This was causing her problems at
home and at school. Molly easily learned to use
belly-breathing, positive self-talk, and the quick
coherence technique to help her calm down,
soothe her worry, and sleep better. Molly’s
parents learned to help her with home practice
using the Freeze Framer® after only a few

custom
parent coaching sessions.  Molly said
that she was able to manage her feelings better.
Molly’s parents said that she was more
confident and better at managing her emotions
when stressed.

Stress Reduction Improves Performance,
Creativity, and “Likeability”

It is easy to accept that we perform worse
when we are stressed and better when we are
not. We all know this from personal
experiences. Jane, 24, fresh out of college and
wishing to make good in her first job, was
stifled by the fast pace, deadlines, and sheer
workload at the design firm. Jane said it was
harder everyday to go to work because she was
so unhappy. She had high expectations for
herself and so did her employers, but she was
not living up to them.
Jane used the Strategies for Coherent
Performance training to break free of the stress
that was holding her back. After 6 weeks, Jane
said she had found her creative spark again. She
was meeting her deadlines with time to spare.
Coworkers were greeting her with a smile and
her supervisor was recommending her for new
projects.

Couple Learns to Fight Less, Negotiate, Kiss, &
Touch More

Carl and Yolanda had learned to coexist in
silence rather than speak and risk more
argument flare-ups. The tension from this
arrangement had gotten so bad that Carl was
having TMJ problems from constant teeth-
grinding and Yolanda was having high blood
pressure problems. They were college
sweethearts who married right after graduation.
At the start of their marriage, each would have
described the other as a best friend. When they
started the
Secrets of Resilient Couples Program,
they were well-matched opponents, expert at
fighting into the wee hours for the last word.

After completing the training, each said that
many of the techniques helped them find their
friendship again, but the Heart Lock-In®
technique really helped them shift into
appreciation for one another. Carl said, “I
learned that disagreements happen, but I can
choose how I want be when we try to work
through stuff. Angry doesn’t have to be
automatic.” Yolanda added that for her, “Being
able to discuss things, even tough things, and
come to agreement, then want to sit on the sofa,
holding hands afterward was the best gift ever.”

Quick and Effective Tool for Managing Anger

Brent, 45, was having problems at work and at
home due to anger and anxiety issues. He
needed a quick and effective technique for
managing his emotions. After 15 sessions using
the Quick Coherence Technique® and Freeze
Framer® sessions, two of the techniques from the
Break Free from Anger Program, Brent found it
easy and natural to use the Quick Coherence
Technique® whenever his feelings of anger
arose. Brent says that his life has become more
peaceful and calm because of these techniques
and regular home practice.
